Dawn Sunrise: First Light Over Huanghuacheng
The unstaffed section at Huanghuacheng has open access before dawn, letting you stand on ancient ramparts as the morning sun breaks over Haoming Reservoir. Slot into any overnight stay.
One early morning
Notify the front desk a day ahead
Please inform our desk a day in advance so we can arrange a dependable local driver. Before you depart in the predawn darkness, our team will pack bottled water, fresh fruit, and energy snacks for your climb.
Depart two hours before sunrise
20 km · depart T-2h
The unrestored section is 20 km away along Haoming Reservoir — the only Great Wall location near Beijing where mountain ramparts directly meet blue waters.
Pass through the village orchard trail
Walking through the trail beside the nearest local courtyard costs approximately 10 RMB paid in cash to the villager. Because this section is not managed as a formal ticketed scenic park, there are no gates or operating hours.
Climb to Towers 7 and 8 for peak panorama
20 min to T3 · aim for T7–T8
The climb from the trail entrance to Tower 3 takes roughly 20 minutes. We recommend continuing further along the stone ridge to Towers 7 and 8, where expansive vantage points open up directly over the eastern horizon and shimmering reservoir.
Return for hot cooked breakfast
Breakfast is served from 07:30 to 09:30 in the courtyard dining hall, and two breakfasts are included with each room booking. The timing syncs effortlessly after descending.
