Two-Day Classic: The Great Wall at an Unhurried Pace
Borrow a cruiser bike and pedal straight to the ticket gate. Walk the panoramic ridge between Tower 6 and Tower 14, then ride the downhill toboggan through oak woods. Sleep 7 km from the wall instead of rushing back on evening buses.
Day 1
- 14:00
Check-in — original physical ID required
All adult guests are registered into the municipal police terminal upon arrival. Original passports are required for international travelers (scanners read the physical chip; photocopies and mobile phone photos cannot be processed). Chinese citizens must present their National ID card.
- 15:00
Pedal to the Great Wall gate
7 km · 30 min by bike
Our cruiser bicycles are complimentary to borrow. It is 7 km to the Mutianyu ticket gate — roughly 30 minutes of gentle riding. You can park the bike at the Great Wall Hotel free of charge. If you prefer not to ride, our hotel vehicle can provide a complimentary transfer when available.
- 16:00
Ascent: scenic shuttle and chairlift
3 km shuttle · 40 min on foot
The scenic shuttle connects the main visitor center to the base of the mountain (approx. 40 minutes if walking). From there, take the open-air chairlift up to Tower 6, or hike the paved south trail to Towers 6 and 8. The north trail leads up toward Tower 10.
- 17:00
Descent: the forest toboggan
chairlift ≤16:50 · cable car ≤16:30
Chairlift up and the stainless-steel toboggan down is our recommended pairing for stunning downhill views across the valleys. For a fully enclosed lift, the northern cable car serves Tower 14. The chairlift runs until 16:50, the cable car until 16:30, and the wall closes at 17:00.
- 19:00
Courtyard dinner in the old dining hall
Authentic Huairou home cooking. Part of the produce comes directly from our organic raised beds, with other seasonal vegetables sourced from village neighbors. Local village cooks hand-roll fresh dumplings and pull noodles daily.
Day 2
- 07:30
Cooked breakfast & chestnut orchard walk
village trail 3–4 km · cycling loop 17 km
Freshly prepared breakfast for two is included with each room. Afterwards, explore a gentle 3–4 km walking loop through the valley, or embark on a 17 km cycling circuit. Huairou has cultivated sweet chestnuts since the Ming dynasty, and centuries-old orchards still cover these hills.
Wednesday & Saturday: valley morning market
Wed & Sat · 08:00–10:00
The traditional Bohai village market runs strictly between 08:00 and 10:00, packing away by mid-morning. It is a genuine community gathering of local growers selling fresh orchard produce and seasonal mountain goods.
- 12:00
Midday checkout
Check-out is by 12:00. On busy public holidays with clustered departures, housekeeping by our village team requires extra care. If arriving guests find rooms still being finished around 14:00, sit under the courtyard walnut trees for freshly brewed tea.
